Here is the ad that Super Bowl LIII rejected

< 1 minute

Unsurprisingly, the NFL officially rejected a proposed Super Bowl ad about the benefits of medical marijuana. Acreage Holdings, the Canadian company that produced the commercial, claims the advertisement was meant as a Public Service Announcement instead of an advertisement for their particular brand.

The ad interviews patients and families with a range of debilitating medical issues. One veteran that was interviewed called not having access to medical marijuana “an injustice” to the people who fought for their country, while a family using cannabis to treat their son’s epilepsy laments the struggling families who live in different states and cannot get access to the same treatments.

It’s not likely the NFL decision makers actually watched the spot, as they cited a strict “no cannabis advertising” rule as the reason they would not consider it. The ad ends with a plea for viewers to call their U.S. Representative or U.S. Senator because when it comes to medical marijuana, “the time is now.” And maybe it is: rumor has it there are several other cannabis brands still vying for a spot at this year’s Super Bowl.
