Cannabis 101:
The what & why of microdosing Part 1 of 2

3 min read

We’ve all had that moment. It might have been a decade ago, but the memory is clear. Or maybe it was just the other day. Either way, a trusted, loved one gave you a baked good containing that sweet, succulent flora known as cannabis, which you’ve smoked but never ate.

So you eat it.

Then what started as nothing, turned into something good, which quickly blossomed into something horrible.

A few hours and one extremely long nap later and you’ve sworn off edibles forever.

No one wants to relive that moment.

But fast forward to 2018 and cannabis has become more accessible and mainstream than you could have imagined. You’re “canna-curious,” but can’t shake the memory of that one time out of your mind.

Fortunately, you are not alone. If you have had a tumultuous experience with cannabis in the past but want to explore the recently refined and regulated market, microdosing is a great place to start and this is a great place to learn about that.

What is microdosing?

The concept of cannabis microdosing is simple: consume fractional amounts of THC to feel its benefits while avoiding the heavy psychoactive effects of a traditional cannabis experience.

Microdosing allows you to access the benefits of cannabis while making it through the day unscathed (aka avoiding bloodshot eyes and overwhelming fatigue). Imagine being able to get all the benefits of coffee without that 3pm caffeine crash. Sounds perfect, right?

Why microdose?

If the “special brownie” is cannabis in its adolescence, microdosing is cannabis in its early thirties: It’s found its niche, it knows what it’s good for, and after a lot of trial and error has realized everything is better in moderation.

We all know too much of a good thing is, well, not a good thing.

When it comes to mind-altering substances, it’s no surprise that too much of it can lead to the exact opposite effect you were looking for. For instance, microdosing is reported to successfully relieve anxiety. Whereas traditional cannabis use can sometimes exacerbate an anxiety problem (resulting in paranoia), a microdose of THC can effectively alleviate it.

The microdose method delivers the benefits of THC while eliminating many of the risks historically associated with cannabis consumption. Without those risks, it is hard to deny the clear benefits of cannabis.

Microdosing has been proven to address the following ailments (and they’re still counting):

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic Pain
  • ADHD
  • Stress
  • Inflammation
  • Indigestion
  • Mood disorders
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Epilepsy

In fact, there have been studies that imply microdosing can even improve memory. With powerful results in such a tiny amount of THC, it makes you wonder if everyone deserves to try a little microdose.

Don’t let that bummer first experience be the end of your story. One of the best aspects of microdosing is being able to go throughout your day more effectively – and enjoyably – than if you weren’t.

That could potentially unlock capabilities and productivity levels you may not have otherwise experienced.

Another great first step to the microdosing world is to check out some great sativaindica or hybrid strains to figure out which is best for you and finding the corresponding edibles. An even better step? Reading part two…
